Bio
Aprilynne Pike is the author of the bestselling young adult novels Wings, Spells, and Illusions. The three novels, often referred to as the Wings series, tell the story of Laurel, a 15-year-old girl who discovers she's a faerie sent to live among humans so she can protect the gateway to the magical land of Avalon.
Pike lists Lois Lowry and Stephenie Meyer among her writing influences, and critics have favorably compared Wings to Meyer's popular Twilight series.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Pike attended Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing after just three years. Following graduation, Pike married her husband Kenneth, whom she first met while he was completing a two-year mission for the Latter Day Saints Church.
Pike struggled to get published for years, writing three novels in her spare time while juggling a string of day jobs with her roles as wife and mother. The very day she decided to finally give up on her dream, Pike received a call from her agent informing her that a publisher had expressed interest in her manuscript. After a few additional months of revision, Wings made its debut in 2009, opening on the New York Times Best-Seller list.
Destined, the fourth and final book in the Wings series is scheduled to be released in May 2012. Pike now lives in Glendale, Arizona, with her husband and four children.
