Since the relative explosion of her debut novel, Sloppy Firsts, Megan McCafferty has been pumping out bestsellers. Also the author of Second Helpings, Charmed Thirds, Fourth Comings, and Pefect Fifths, McCafferty has made it onto multiple best seller lists while breaking into the world of young adult writing. Hailing from New Jersey, she also spent time in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and attended the University of Richmond before transferring to Columbia University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in English.
Her first novel, Sloppy Firsts, part of the Jessica Darling series, chronicles the life of a young girl through high school, college, and beyond. Written in a diary style, Sloppy Firsts became an instant teen hit in August of 2001.
McCafferty's work has won numerous awards, including ones from the New York Public Library and the American Library Association. Prior to breaking into the world of young adult fiction, McCafferty worked in the magazine business, where she was an editor for Cosmopolitan, YM, and Fitness magazines. Her writing career began with her entrance of short stories and articles into a variety of teen magazines.
