Tera Lynn Childs

Bio

Tera Lynn Childs is the author of Oh. My. Gods. a young-adult fantasy novel published in 2008, which won the Romance Writers of America's 2009 RITA award for Best First Book. Oh. My. Gods. and Goddess Boot Camp -- published in 2009 -- are both mythology-based novels aimed at young female readers.

Childs has also written three mermaid tales: Forgive My Fins, Fins are Forever and Just for Fins, which is set to be released in the summer of 2012. Sweet Venom, published in 2011, is the first in a trilogy about monster-hunting descendants of Medusa. Sweet Shadows is the second installment, set for release in September of 2012. In addition, Childs has e-published two romances of the chick-lit genre titled Eye Candy and Straight Stalk.

Childs has lived in a dizzying number of places. She was born on the outskirts of Minneapolis, but by the time she entered kindergarten, her family had already lived in Colorado, Indiana, Ohio and Montreal. She spent her elementary school years in San Diego and Sacramento but returned to Minneapolis during middle school, soon followed by a move to Missouri. Her family managed to stay put during her high school years, where she happened to have attended the same high school as Brad Pitt, albeit 12 years later. Childs spent her college years split between Columbia University in New York City and the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she earned a degree in theater. She then returned to Columbia for her Master's in Historic Preservation.

After obtaining her master's degree but still unsure of which career she wanted to pursue, Childs started writing. Four years later, she signed with an agent and a year after that, she sold her first book. Childs is still on the move, of course. She lived in Houston for a few years before moving to her current city, Seattle. But she hasn't ruled out another move in the near future.

Childs' favorite books growing up were: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, The Egypt Game by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, the Sweet Valley High series by Francine Pascal and Kate William, The Babysitter's Club series by Ann M. Martin and the Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene.
