From the inspiration for #TLCBooks herself, Tera Lynn Childs, comes a list of the things she needs when she’s in need of a little TLC. Look for the giveaway at the bottom of this post!
Whether it’s a bad review, a slow writing session, or just an all around sucky day, sometimes I need a pick me up. There are certain things that are guaranteed to make me feel better. Little comforts that lessen the stress and make me forget for a little while. When I indulge in the things on this list, my gray skies usually turn blue again.
1.) Firefly on DVD – My absolute favorite TV show of all time. Joss Whedon is a master and this is his best work. I love Buffy, but I’ll choose the crew of Serenity any day. There is so much to love here: believable characters, clever stories, amazing worldbuilding, snappy dialogue. I can watch this show (except for “Out of Gas” because it makes me cry) over and over and over again. And I do.
2.) Old Navy pajamas – Bright, cheerful, whimsical, and cheap. I can’t count how many pairs of these I’ve owned over the years. Right now I have a long white pair dotted with pretty colored hearts and a cropped blue pair covered with watermelon slices. When I don’t have to leave the house, I live in them.
3.) My dog Daisy – She is without a doubt the sweetest, cuddliest dog ever. When I’m feeling low, she’s always there to snuggle. Unless there’s a squirrel to hunt. Or a ball to chase. Or food to beg. Or a nap to take. Well… she’s at my side when there’s nothing more exciting going on.
4.) SwimWays spring float – Nothing lifts my spirits like a dip in the pool. When I want to do nothing more than lounge around in the sun and forget the rest of the world exists, I climb onto this float and soak my troubles away until my fingers get all pruney.
5.) Green tea mochi balls – Since going vegan almost two and a half years ago, I only make occasional exceptions for dairy products. Sometimes I’ll indulge with a Starbucks scone or a tasty tiramisu. But I will always make an exception for green tea ice cream, especially when it comes in the form of a mochi ball.
6.) Lucky, Self, and People Style Watch – As much as I try to go green and read my magazines on my iPad, these are three titles that I have to get in print. Mostly because I like to tear out pages for inspiration and wish lists. Even if I never buy that $500 purse or try that new workout craze, I like to imagine that I will.
7.) Moleskine Volant notebooks – I have tried just about every kind of notebook and journal out there. These colorful notebooks are perfection. The paper is smooth and the ink doesn’t bleed through. They are small enough to fit in my purse, but with enough pages to hold all the notes I scribble for a book. When I’m bummed, nothing makes me feel better than brainstorming a new story. I break out a fresh notebook and start dreaming.
