Haven’t heard of THE MADMAN’S DAUGHTER? No worries, here’s some more info to get you started.

For fans of Libba Bray, this first book in a gothic suspense trilogy is inspired by H. G. Wells’s The Island of Dr. Moreau and has been hailed by New York Timesbestseller Carrie Ryan as having “beautiful writing, breakneck pacing, a pulse-pounding mystery, and an irresistible romance.”

Following accusations that her scientist father gruesomely experimented on animals, sixteen-year-old Juliet watched as her family and her genteel life in London crumbled around her—and only recently has she managed to piece her world back together. But when Juliet learns her father is still alive and working on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the old accusations are true. Accompanied by her father’s handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward, Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father’s insanity. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father’s dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it’s too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father’s genius—and madness—in her own blood.

Weird, I’ve just checked out the book. I’m at the part slightly after Juliet, Montgomery, and Edward arrive to the Island. Juliet was taking with Edward and seemed like they were about to kiss, but then Balthazar came in to tell Juliet that her bath was ready. I love this book so far.

Awesome I just bought the book as an ebook. I’m pumped!!

Now I’m at the part after the howling from the laboratory. Dr. Moreau sent Montgomery to find out who was there, so Juliet ran off to the jungle. Edward tried to get her to come back from danger. Shortly after their separation, she finds an old house and is in it when she hears someone coming. She prepares to attack the on comer, but since the thing left, she leaves, seeing three-fingered footprints. She is now at the stream at this point, splashing water on her face.

This book has been on my TBR list for a while. What a good excuse to move it right to the very top. Hope I can finish it in time!

So at this point I’m at where Edward and Juliet are hiding together and Edward has kissed her. Turns out, Edward knew about Dr. Moreau’s madness from long before.
Sorry, but posting through here is the only way I’m keeping track of my process.

Just finished the part where she saw her father in the lab for the first time. Gruesome stuff!

We have howling winds here. It’s the perfect background for the book. Beyond creeptastic

The animal-human-thingys get their injection. Juliet’s wondering if she’s an animal-thingy herself and gets Montgomery to check her scar. She and Edward want to get off the island, but Juliet wants to bring Montgomery, and they are not meeting as much. Dr. Moreau set off to find Ajax. Juliet goes to the bookshelf to drink, her father comes, and he complains on how she should be a lady.

  12. January 24, 2014 | 8:50 pm

I’m just at the part where Juliet finds Edward behind the water fall in the jungle after they ran away from Dr. Moreau and his mysterious lab experiments.

  13. January 24, 2014 | 8:53 pm

This is getting really good! I feel like I’m reading it for the first time again.

  14. January 25, 2014 | 6:10 am

Animal-thingys are going to not be injected anymore, put into regression. Edward, Montgomery, and Juliet are furious with Dr. Moreau. It is revealed that Montgomery had always, even from before bringing Juliet, liked Juliet. He says Montgomery is a servant and should act as such, Edward has an agreement, and Juliet is his daughter.

I’ve been looking for an excuse to reread before my copy of HDC arrives next week! This works out perfectly :)

  16. January 25, 2014 | 6:09 pm

I’m at Chapter 13 after they just got to the island. Enjoying it and sucked in, heart pumping. Getting spoiled here though :) Back to reading!

  17. January 26, 2014 | 7:07 am

I finished reading it last night and my mind was crying!
So, yea, Edward is the monster, Juliet leaves, putting Dr. Moreau in danger by leaving the door thing open for the beast-thingys. On who gets off the island, I thought Montgomery would stay for Juliet and Balthazar to go, or that Juliet would stay for Montgomery and Balthazar to leave. Instead, it was that Juliet would leave alone. I was so busy mind-crying that either Juliet or Montgomery would have to stay while the other and Balthazar left, that I had to reread that part to make sure I hadn’t read it incorrectly.
