Simple Bookstagrams

Today I'd like to talk about YA contemporaries. I'll admit that it's not my favorite genre and I only rarely find books and authors that I truly love. Yesterday I finished reading a contemporary that made me question why do I even still bother reading these stories, if I end up disappointed again and again. But guess what? It's worth it, because every so often a book such as If I Was Your Girl comes along, and it makes you so happy or even better, changes or expands your view on a certain topic. If I Was Your Girl is an #ownvoices story about a trans girl Amanda and how she's adjusting to not only her new self, but also trying to navigate living in a conservative town in the South of the US. It made me much more aware of the struggles that this community faces, and yet the book wasn't preachy or bleak. I loved that the author basically wrote a cute fluffy typical contemporary, and yet with an important theme of self acceptance underneath. Some other YA contemporaries that I loved are: . 🌈anything written by Rainbow Rowell 🌈Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta 🌈Simon vs. Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli 🌈Radio Silence by Alice Oseman 🌈PS. I Love You by Kasie West Which are some of your favorite contemporaries? I'd love some recommendations!

“If men could see us as we really are, they would be a little amazed; but the cleverest, the acutest men are often under an illusion about women: they do not read them in a true light: they misapprehend them, both for good and evil: their good woman is a queer thing, half doll, half angel; their bad woman almost always a fiend.” ― Charlotte Brontë, Shirley 🍃 Perhaps I haven't told you but I'm #currentlyreading #wunderkids by @jchoulji and really enjoying it. It kinda reminds me of El Internado, a Spanish TV show, in case you haven't watched it. Hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow, I've like 50 more pages to read, but I have some test today and Uni classes and after then I'm meeting with a friend so I won't be able to read. 🍃 Also, didn't wanted to rant about this, but it became so frustrating so I can no longer keep quiet. In the past two weeks, ever since I first reached 1.7k I've started losing followers like insane! I think I've lost somewhere around 200 followers in less than two weeks. I was just beginning to like my theme and what I'm doing here, despite all of those IG updates and stupid algorithm. But this constant loss of followers really makes me feel sad. Why do you follow in the first place if you only mean to unfollow in the matter of days? With zero interaction? You want a follow back? If you're not a bookstagram account – it's very unlikely that I'll follow you back unless I know you or am amazed by what you do. But please, and this is very important, I will follow back in case you are active, in case you pay attention to my posts, in case you – simply – INTERACT. For this is a SOCIAL NETWORK, it's all about INTERACTION. Please.
