I’m always looking for a good book recommendation and sometimes, I can get inspiration from the weirdest places! Last night while hunkered down playing Skyrim, I realized that the game reminded me of some of my favorite YA books and thus this post was born. Do you have a better video game to book matchup? If so, share it in the comments!

1. Legend of Zelda —–> The Girl of Fire and Thorns

Zelda
There are quite a few similarities between the game and the book….think about it. The Triforce in Zelda….sound like the Godstone in Girl of Fire and Thorns? Other good matchups for Legend of Zelda: Defiance by C. J. Redwine

2.
Skyrim —–> Eragon

Skyrim Eragon
Dragons! Swords! High-fantasy adventure! These two are a match made in heaven. Other good matchups for Skyrim: Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

3. Halo —–> I Am Number Four

Halo I Am Number Four
Dystopian alien warfare. ‘Nuff said. Other good matchups for Halo 3: Insignia by S.J. Kincaid

4. Super Smash Bros. —–> The Hunger Games

Super Smash Bros  The Hunger Games
Let’s see…a whole bunch of characters are dropped into unknown territory and forced to battle until one person is left. Other good matchups for The Hunger Games: Playstation All Stars, Street Fighter

5. Fallout —–> Divergent

Fallout
Post-apocalypse America, a civilization that is divided into factions, a dangerous and violent environment….can’t tell if we’re talking about the book or the game, can you? Other good matchups for Fallout: Blood Red Road by Moira Young, Partials by Dan Wells

6. The Oregon Trail —–> The Devil’s Paintbox

Oregon Trail  The Devil's Paintbox
The Devil’s Paintbox is set in 1666 Kansas and follows the journey of two siblings who must trek from Kansas to Seattle by wagon. Let’s just hope they don’t die of dysentery.

BONUS ROUND!!! Mass Effect —–> Across the Universe

Mass Effect Across the Universe
If you like your science fiction with a lot of suspense and a little romance on the side, these two were made for you! Other good matchups for Mass Effect: Glow, Ender’s Game
*Thanks to Ink And Wire for this suggestion via Twitter!*

What video game to book matchups would you recommend? Would you change any of the matchups we have listed here? Sound off below!

I feel like I should start playing video games now! I didn’t know I was missing out on all these great dysopian games.

This was a fun post. Have you thought of one for Ready Player One by Ernie Cline?
