There was almost too much to love about this novel. I don't normally drool all over Dystopian fiction. I like it, but I don't necessarily like it enough to throw the book against the wall yelling "Noooo!" when it's over...because that's exactly what I did when I finished Defiance. I didn't want it to end!
I loved both Rachel and Logan, I loved their strong characters and will-power, I loved the love story. In fact, I loved it so much I made my book club read it too. :)
This book made me gasp out loud (true story). This book made me tear up. And it made me grin like an idiot. I'm sure I freaked a lot of people out.
EVERYBODY LISTEN TO ME:
READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!!! It's so damn good and so spellbinding...
I can't put it down even when I finished.
I'm not being dramatic, it's true.
I loved the action, I loved the romance, I loved the characters... and summarizing everything on the C.J. Redwine world enchanted me.
Again...
READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!!!
For genre, though, I'd actually say it's a post-apocalyptic fantasy with a dash of dystopian! C.J. does a great job of blending different genres, which I LOVE. This is a spectacular book. :D
Totally agree with "for fans of Graceling, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, and Shadow and Bone."
No, it's not post-apocalypse. I'd definitely classify it as high fantasy with a pinch of steampunk. Just a pinch, and it's not really steampunk...more just some interesting tech used in a high fantasy / old-timey setting. Am I making any sense?
Just finished reading this one. Easily the best high-fantasy novel I've read this year! Definitely for fans of Graceling, The Girl of Fire and Thorns and Shadow & Bone. So good!
