ABOUT

Book Description

Paperback features over fifty pages of bonus materials, including a sneak peek of Insurgent, an author Q&A, a discussion guide, a Divergent playlist, faction manifestos, and more!

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Veronica Roth is the New York Times bestselling author of Divergent, the first in a trilogy of dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

I really love this book so much. I've read it like 3 times already.

When I read Divergent, I was unreasonably addicted to it. I kept reading the book multiple times that I lost count. I recommend this book to readers that are thrill-seekers and those who love to read action/dramatic/romance novels.

The book was a little boring for me at times. I really liked it and the ending made me fall in love with it, but there were parts where I was bored. I don’t know if it was because I found other book similarities in this one or because I was reading too many dystopians around the same time.

Overall, I can't wait to read the sequel before the movie comes out.

*SPOILER ALERT*
I love divergent I am in love with it but the third book just killed me I cried I sobbed and yelled. I finished the book a while back but I still cry about it veronica Roth why? Why kill tris? Was life too good for me? Okay maybe killing the others for a plot twist but killing the main character, the narrator, Tobias's true love, now that's just cruel. Don't get me wrong I love divergent I can't shut up about it but that ending in allegiant killed me.

I'm with you. Just finished it and I feel like I can't breathe. Brought back too many terrible memories of my own and almost makes me wish I didn't read it. Almost.

The trilogy was incredible. The last book broke me, but I have yet to read the fourth and latest installation, FOUR. I am so excited!!!

reply

I've read the whole trilogy I LOVED IT!!!!

I have read all three books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I was unable to put down all three and often found myself picking the book back up to re-read. Highly recommend if you enjoy action/ romance and young adult fiction. Movie adaptation stays pretty true to the book which is nice for a change.
