ABOUT

From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver comes an extraordinary novel of fear, friendship, courage, and hope.

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of twelve thousand people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She'd never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game; he's sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he's not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

Already optioned by Universal Pictures in a major deal, this gritty, spellbinding novel captures both the raw energy of fear mixed with excitement as well as the aching need to find a place to belong.

I'd say a 5.5. It's not terribly violent, but there are a few moments.

Panic was brilliant with its delicate and appeasing balance between a suspenseful and intriguing plot and dimensional and inspiring characters that develop highly! 4.5 STARS!

Is this a first book? Or is it one of a series?

What I wrote when I received the ARC:

"Umm can I just say I love life right now for receiving this ARC? There was no waiting for next year let's just be real about that. Oh Panic please don't let me down..."

How I feel finishing it:

Maybe I jinxed it.
Maybe I hyped myself up too much.
Maybe I hold Lauren Oliver to ridiculously high standards...

Oh wait, I hold her to standards she had set by her other titles. Before I Fall was my first experience with Oliver and the first book I read on my Kindle. I cannot say enough good things about Before I Fall and the Delirium series. Thus, I was anticipating Panic in ways I can't convey.

Sadly Panic was just a serious absolute disappointment. The 2.5 generous stars I'm giving Panic were for the first two thirds of the book. They were fantastic but a book IS its ending. And this ending was a BUST.

This isn't my full review... not yet.

I can not wait for this book! I just finished reading the Delirium Trilogy and have to say it was my favorite series ever! The character and plot development was unrivaled, the writing was exceptional and the plot twists and turns kept coming! I am growing to love (and need) Lauren and her books! Please never stop what you are doing Lauren! I will be getting this book release date guaranteed!

Great book! Fantastic book! I read an ARC and it was WOW! A book that proves that an author with a successful book series can write brilliant stand-alones too.

"No one had ever told her this basic fact: not everyone got to be loved."
