Here’s Your Bookish Horoscope for December!

Here's Your Bookish Horoscope for October!

For some of you book nerds, December is set to be a peaceful month. For others of you… not so much. But whoever you are, whatever sign you call your own, one thing is for sure: feelings. That’s right, the stars promise an emotional month for all! Hooray?

Whether with tears of joy or shouts of achievement, get to celebrating the end of 2018 in your own way as you prepare for all the shiny newness that’s to come in 2019.

And to bookend another year gone by, we recommend at least one epic read. And we have just the one for you…

Epic Reads December Horoscopes

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Sagittarius

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21
Keywords: Friction, focus, faith

Last month you reflected on your growth and recommitted to the things *most* important to you. And now it’s a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Sagittarius, as we round out one year and head into the next. The December stars warn that things might feel tense, but with enough faith in yourself and purpose in every action you take, the month will turn out 👌just fine👌. So instead of doing LOTS of activities to the utmost (which we know you tend to do), pick a few super important goals to zero in on — college applications, finals, finishing up your creative project with flair, mastering meditation — and let the rest of your tasks sort themselves out while you enjoy the end of 2018 with the people you love most. You’re ready for a new chapter, and we can’t wait to read it!

Book pick: The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen
Reason: Once all your major goals are done and you’re ready to curl up with a good book, check out this lush, powerful story of life and death, battles and riddle, lies and secrets set in the Mongol Empire.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Capricorn

Capricorn

December 22 – January 19
Keywords: Quiet, contemplative, strategic

You rocked November, Capricorn. An inspiration to us all, truly. In comparison, December might feel a bit…empty. Now, that’s not bad, per se. But it might feel like it. After all, it’s pretty tough to feel a sense of accomplishment when you’re not really doing anything. But FEAR NOT! Where the body is inactive and the 🗓calendar🗓 suspiciously empty, your mind can be racing at a million miles per hour. An empty month now is really just the means to start 2019—and a new year of your life—with a clean slate. So get planning, my bookish friend. We can’t wait to see what you’ll be up to next year.

Book pick: Devils Unto Dust by Emma Berquist
Reason: When your December is feeling a bit blah, spice things up with this book about a young woman fighting to survive the unthinkable in a journey through the desert to find her good-for-nothing father in a Texas taken over by a horrifying sickness.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Aquarius

Aquarius

January 20 – February 18
Keywords: Joy, passion, confidence

Last month you embraced your creativity and begat things truly wondrous to behold. In December, be prepared to continue creating, because everything you touch will turn to gold. (Probably not literally.) Perhaps you’ll get that early acceptance to the college of your dreams, or your final history project will land you a 💯 or you’ll begin your [insert winter sport] season with your BEST record yet. Wherever your passions take you—or better yet, you take them—expect to dance through December with confidence, joy, and stress-free energy. You’ll practically waltz into 2019, so make the most of this *fabulous* month, Aquarius!

Book pick: Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett
Reason: A fantastical book for your month of creativity and passion. Formerly of the nobility, Kate (a.k.a Traitor Kate after her father tried to assassinate the king of Rime) now works for the royal courier service. When a routine run goes wrong and her forbidden magic leads her to a nightmarish scene, she’ll have to put her past behind her to unravel the menacing present.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Pisces

Pisces

February 19 – March 20
Keywords: Completion, achievement, determination

You rode the rollercoaster that was November and disembarked into December on solid ground with a sigh of relief. This month, your challenge will be to keep that Pisces mind of yours WIDE OPEN and focused on the bigger picture. Because the details are gonna be annoying, the stars are sorry to say. Instead of sweating the small stuff, refocus on your big dreams. Perhaps you got a solo in your choir’s holiday show: nail it. Maybe you’re putting the finishing touches on your short story: make it a masterpiece. Or you’re making your debut appearance in the jingle bell trot: cross that 🏃‍finish line🏃‍ with a smile. With your mind on your dreams, you won’t have time to worry about those pesky details. And by the time 2019 gets here, you’ll be on your way to something great.

Book pick: Strange Days by Constantine J. Singer
Reason: Like a character in a good book, you’ll be chasing something larger than yourself while leaping over obstacles left and right. So here’s a character that does just that. Alex Mata is on the run and forced to confront a new reality: aliens are real, his parents dead, and he a Witness with an ability that could save Earth.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Aries

Aries

March 21 – April 19
Keywords: Peace, planning, priorities

November pulled you in a TON of different directions, Aries. We hope you were able to slow things down with a good book here and there! In December, your mind will be worrying about your goals for next year (it’s resolution time, y’all) while your body is craving peace. Give yourself the best of both worlds by going for a walk or doing some gentle yoga. While the body rests the mind can think, and oh what thoughts you’ll have! If all of that still leaves you feeling unsure and a *teensy* bit grumpy, a cup full of eggnog and a pile of unread books will surely be the cure-all you need to set things to rights as you head into 2019. And the ✨stars✨ have much in store for you next year…

Book pick: Kiss Collector by Wendy Higgins
Reason: Since your mind will be focused on the future, here’s a contemporary to bring you back to the present. Zae thought she was over relationships. Instead, she just wants kisses. In a spring break kiss competition with her friends, however, Zae is forced to rethink the reasons behind her boy angst, and admit that maybe not all boys were as bad as she thought.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Taurus

Taurus

April 20 – May 20
Keywords: Positive, peace, trust

November was a month of cleansing and confession, Taurus. And while we know that was hard, we bet you feel better for being honest. And now that you’ve gotten rid of all that bad stuff you’d let go unaddressed, you get to ring in the end of the year with positivity. In December, ✨trust the universe✨. Let go of the reins of control, of all that baggage you’ve been lugging around this year. Embrace a more peaceful you. That’ll give your mind a chance to contemplate life’s most important question: What makes you happy? Maybe it’s books, writing, yoga, family, school, friends, fashion. Whatever it may be, be grateful you have it in your life. And look forward to even MORE great things to come in 2019.

Book pick: Hidden Pieces by Paula Stokes
Reason: If books just happen to be one of the things which make you happy (we’re pretty sure that’s 100% likely), then we bet you’ll love this contemporary thriller about a small town, a big secret, and a deadly game.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Gemini

Gemini

May 21 – June 20
Keywords: Emotional, passionate, powerful

Last month you found a balance between alone time and being the life of the party. In December, balance will go out the window and the only thing you’ll be feeling is… feelings. And strong ones at that. It might just be that the holidays always make you feel a mix of 😆extremely jolly😆 and 😫totally stressed😫, or that seeing the first snow makes you jump for joy and then yelp in anguish when an icy blast of wind strikes your face. Maybe you’re feeling love, grief, confidence, crushing insecurity… whatever the case, those emotions will power you through December and straight into 2019 with a burst of *passion* you didn’t even know yourself capable of. You’ve got this, Gemini. And you’ve got next year, too.

Book pick: A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
Reason: A powerful book for your passionate month! This heartrending novel about fear, first love, and the impact of prejudice chronicles a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl’s high school experience a year after 9/11. Can Shirin pull down her protective walls built up over years of rudeness and violence to let somebody special in? Longlisted for a National Book Award!

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Cancer

Cancer

June 21 – July 22
Keywords: Optimistic, generous, playful

You plowed through November with a laser-like focus and have arrived in December with a feeling of accomplishment. Good on you, Cancer. Now it’s time to embrace the spirit of the holidays: gratitude and goodwill for all. You’ve likely had a truly great few months while others have really struggled, so lend a helping hand to those in need. Perhaps that’s as simple as making your parents something *extra* special for Christmas or as involved as hosting a coat drive in your hometown ahead of the coldest months of the year. And as you put your effort into others, the universe will redouble the positive energy within you so you can say goodbye to 2018 with a smile and hope for an even brighter 2019.

Book pick: We’ll Fly Away by Bryan Bliss
Reason: A reminder to appreciate all that you have in your own life—and how you can give back to others—in this story about two boys who grew up in small-town poverty, and the path a teenager takes to end up on death row. A National Book Award longlist title!

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Leo

Leo

July 23 – August 22
Keywords: Connection, culmination, change

Wow! It looks like you had *quite* a fun November, Leo! Now that you’ve reconnected with your friends and your own passions, allow them to pull you through December. Appreciate the people in your life, think on all you’ve learned this year, and decide what you still want to change as you head on in to 2019. And as your 💖mind and heart💖 are full reminiscing over the past year, keep your hands busy sprucing up your home for the holidays. A few paper snowflakes here, a dozen strings of light there, and several hours spent on Pinterest later, your home will be a beautiful, joyous place for both you and your family. Then all that’s left to do is enjoy what’s left of the year with the people you love most. Now aren’t you a lucky lion, Leo?

Book pick: Stronger, Faster, and More Beautiful by Arwen Elys Dayton
Reason: As you plan for change in 2018, a novel about the dark side of the quest for perfection. Weave through six interconnected stories that show how far humans will go to remake ourselves, and explore the possibilities (and ethical quandaries) of genetic manipulation, life extension, and more in this action-packed book.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Virgo

Virgo

August 23 – September 22
Keywords: Patience, perspective, tolerance

November was all about communication and kindness, both externally and internally. You battled stressors and came out on top. In December be prepared…to do 🤺battle🤺 AGAIN. *Sigh*. We know, it’s not really what you wanted to hear. But worry not! For the stars are here to guide you as much as warn you. Instead of picking fights or responding to aggression in kind, just ground yourself with thoughts of books, or puppies, or a million likes on Instagram. Once you’ve gone to your happy place (or rage-composed a poem), remind yourself to listen and react with calmness and kindness. Everybody is fighting their own battle, and there’s no reason to start a war as you head into a BRAND NEW YEAR.

Book pick: The Disasters by M.K. England
Reason: For when your life feels like a disaster, a Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Breakfast Club YA sci-fi adventure about four Ellis Station Academy washouts who witness the biggest crime in the history of space colonization. Now it’s up to them—the failures—to step up and fight… if only they could get along.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Libra

Libra

September 23 – October 22
Keywords: Inspiration, celebration, motivation

Last month you chased down your goals and kicked them in the butt. We are SO impressed with you, Libra. And we bet you feel pretty stupendous, too. As December unfolds, you can expect to continue basking in the glow of a year well done. So why don’t you TREAT YO’ SELF? Maybe go out and get a mani/pedi with your bffl. Buy yourself a holiday present. Add a few 📚more books📚 to that already-crowded bookshelf. And then, with pampering completed, start thinking about what’s NEXT. What inspires you? How can you chase that inspiration into 2019? Whatever you choose to focus on next year, we’re sure you’ll do it with a multi-step plan and a positive mindset.

Book pick: The Midnights by Sarah Nicole Smetana
Reason: As you think on what you want and who you’ll be next year, here’s a coming-of-age novel about loss, creativity and finding your voice, set in Southern California.

Epic Reads Horoscopes: Scorpio

Scorpio

October 23 – November 21
Keywords: Reflection, rejuvenation, relaxation

You threw yourself into celebrations last month despite feeling a little unenthused, Scorpio. In December, channel the vestiges of your frustrated energies into creativity. Whether that’s doing something new and spontaneous with your wardrobe, volunteering for a 🎨mural-painting day🎨 at your local elementary school, or finishing that NaNoWriMo project you couldn’t quite complete last month. The more you do with the energy you have, the more the universe will respond in kind. Extend a helping hand, get a helping hand right back. Finish one project, be struck with inspiration for another. And as you realize how much good you have in your life, resolve to do EVEN MORE with the gifts you have in 2019.

Book pick: My Almost Flawless Tokyo Dream Life by Rachel Cohn
Reason: Embrace the colorful world of the Tokyo elite for your vibrant month of creativity in action. Foster-kid-out-of-water Elle has just moved to Tokyo to live with her long-lost-hotel-mogul of a father. It seems like a dream come true. Until, of course, it isn’t.
