Reading is a science.
Well, okay, maybe not in the way that chemistry or biology is, but there is definitely a level of math and calculations involved. How else are we supposed to time out how many books we can read in a year? Or how much longer we have until the inevitable emotional destruction caused by the end of our latest fave? But there is one thing that can get in the way of that…
The padded page count. Have you ever been reading, thought you know just how much story you had left, and then… got to the end? Plenty of books have extras at the end—previews for sequels, something in the vein of a codex—but still. It feels like a new betrayal every time!
