Panel: Your Own Worst Enemy

Time: 2:30PM–3:15PM | Location: 1E10

  • As much as we all try to avoid making mistakes, stories thrive on flawed characters that get in their own way. Join Victoria Aveyard, Maureen Johnson, Tiffany D. Jackson, Swati Teerdhala, and Katy Loutzenhiser as they discuss why their characters are their own worst enemies, how they turn their flaws into strengths that help them find true happiness, and how to keep audiences interested even when they don’t.

Panel: Social Justice Warriors

Time: 3:30PM–4:15PM | Location: 1E14

  • An annual staple of the BookCon program, this year’s Social Justice Warriors panel features four fan-favorite authors whose books all try to help move our culture forward just as much as they try to entertain their readers. Jason Reynolds, Daniel Jose Older, Morgan Parker, Elizabeth Acevedo, Damon Young, and this panel’s moderator, Akilah Hughes, have made hugely successful writing careers by being able to craft captivating stories featuring characters tackling issues of race, gender, and class. Let’s learn how these esteemed authors walk the fine line of writing page-turning stories while addressing the vitally important social issues of today.

Will we see you there? Can’t make it? Either way, keep up with us on social!
