It’s a truth universally acknowledged that when there’s a Pride & Prejudice retelling, that we will 100% pick it up and devour it. It’s a CLASSIC for a reason, people!
Did you read Pride & Prejudice for fun? Or for English class? Either way you probably think you’re a pro at this classic. But this Jane Austen fav has officially been remixed in Ibi Zoboi’s newest novel, PRIDE. It’s a clever, hilarious, and of course, a romantic take on the classic, and while Ibi has changed some things around, the universal themes are still there and we LOVE how its both familiar and different all at the same time. Which might make it hard to decipher which is which.

Is This Quote from Pride & Prejudice or the Remix?
Zuri Benitez has pride. Brooklyn pride, family pride, and pride in her Afro-Latino roots. But pride might not be enough to save her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood from becoming unrecognizable.
When the wealthy Darcy family moves in across the street, Zuri wants nothing to do with their two teenage sons, even as her older sister, Janae, starts to fall for the charming Ainsley. She especially can’t stand the judgmental and arrogant Darius. Yet as Zuri and Darius are forced to find common ground, their initial dislike shifts into an unexpected understanding.
But with four wild sisters pulling her in different directions, cute boy Warren vying for her attention, and college applications hovering on the horizon, Zuri fights to find her place in Bushwick’s changing landscape, or lose it all.
