IF YOU WANT SOMETHING COLD
Forget the bowl of ice cream or the popsicle. You’ll want ice cream that is available on a stick, dipped in chocolate. The chocolate coating helps keep everything intact and the stick allows for one-handed consumption. The other perfect option is to go with bite sized ice cream bars – much easier to turn a page when you aren’t always holding something in your hand! Our favorites in this category come from Magnum, Dove, and anything bite-sized like Nestle Dibs.
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING SALTY
Salty is a typical go-to for any book nerd, but the PERFECT salty snack must also be book-friendly. Say goodbye to the delicious but incredibly messy Cheetos and Doritos (unless you eat them with chopsticks, and if that’s the case, we salute you) and say hello to pretzels. Chips can sometimes be too greasy and Chex Mix is better than chips, but you still get a bit of grease, while delicious, is a pain in the butt to clean off every time you need to turn the page. Hence why we recommend pretzels. So many different varieties, so many options, so delicious.
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING SWEET
Many of our survey participants (aka: Twitter followers) said they like to have their cake and eat it too –– while reading. While we definitely agree with this snack choice, we suggest making some cake pops instead of the traditional cake. Makes eating while reading much easier! We suggest this recipe from A Beautiful Mess!
Also acceptible in this category are donuts, particularly those yummy little donut holes.
IF YOU WANT SOME CANDY
The only rule to follow here is to avoid anything with a ton of sugar. Sorry Sour Patch Kids, you don’t cut it this round. Instead, opt for gummy things –– we suggest worms or bears. Also acceptable are Twizzlers (or Red Vines. . . all depends on where you come from.)
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING HEALTHY
Raw fruit and veggies are the way to go on this. For fruit, we suggest bananas, apples, pears, peaches, ect. For veggies, anything that you can dip into so hummus –– so just about everything. The smart way to go with the veggies it to pre-dip them. (See the image below!) Also, give kale chips a try! If you go light on the oil, you shouldn’t have a problem.
