Angel Mage is an epic fantasy that proves why Garth Nix is such a legend. Full of dark magic and angelic power, this killer standalone follows both the devious Liliath and the four rag-tag survivors who have no idea what her plans for them actually entail. Prepare for all the feels on both the villainous *and* heroic sides of the spectrum.
This fierce fantasy takes place in an alternate Europe, so you know we had to introduce you to this dark, complex new world and all that it entails (because who doesn’t love a book map?) Get ready to enter the magical world of Angel Mage!
The World of Angel Mage
MAPS, MAGIC, AND MORE
First of all, we need to talk about these angels. There is a hierarchy, from Seraphim (with the least power) to Archangel (the mightiest), that plays an important role in the events of Angel Mage. Palleniel, the angel that Liliath is determined to reunite with, is an archangel who once ruled over all of Ystara, and who may have played a heavy hand in the downfall of the country…
Lesser angels also have a scope—the type of power they hold. Foraziel, an angel we meet early on, is able to find things, lost or forgotten. Which, as luck would have it, is exactly what Liliath needs to find the four people that hold the key to reuniting with Palleniel…
So, how does Liliath (and other mages) call these celestial beings? Icons! Like on the *epic* cover, icons bear an image of a specific angel and are infused with magic that let mages summon them. Liliath is one of the most powerful mages to have ever lived, being able to channel angels since she was a little girl.
Is #MageGoals a thing?
And now for the world itself!
Have we mentioned how much we love book maps? Garth created these *epic* maps so we can fully immerse ourselves in Liliath’s story, and we are OBSESSED.
Each one gives us a closer look at the landscape of Angel Mage, and tbh we can 100% picture Liliath wreaking havoc in each place—and we can’t wait for you to read about it.
About Angel Mage
More than a century has passed since Liliath crept into the empty sarcophagus of Saint Marguerite, fleeing the Fall of Ystara. But she emerges from her magical sleep still beautiful, looking no more than nineteen, and once again renews her single-minded quest to be united with her lover, Palleniel, the archangel of Ystara.
It’s a seemingly impossible quest, but Liliath is one of the greatest practitioners of angelic magic to have ever lived, summoning angels and forcing them to do her bidding.
Four young people hold her interest: Simeon, a studious doctor-in-training; Henri, a dedicated fortune hunter; Agnez, a glory-seeking musketeer; and Dorotea, icon-maker and scholar of angelic magic.
The four feel a strange kinship from the moment they meet but do not suspect their importance. And none of them know just how Liliath plans to use them, as mere pawns in her plan, no matter the cost to everyone else…
